Bike Run 2008
We’ve done it again!! £23,600 raised for 3 charities, 48 hours of running and cycling and 54 participants and support crew combined!
A team of keen runners and cyclists from Moorhouse Consulting established the ‘Bike Run Charity Challenge’ 2 years ago when they ran and cycled from London to Bideford, Devon in two days, raising £3,500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children Charity (GOSHCC). Last year the challenge was tougher! There were two teams racing against each other in a bid to make it almost another 100 miles west, travelling through Hungerford, Taunton and Plymouth before arriving in Land’s End, Cornwall. The two teams raised just over £15,000 to support Cancer Research UK and GOSHCC. This year we exceeded all expectations! Three teams participated in the event which, started in Gretna, Scotland and finished in Queen's Square, London. We managed to raise over £21,000 for Sustainable Futures in Africa, Alzheimer's Society and GOSHCC collectively and will continue to raise funds until the first week of September 2008. If you wish to sponsor one of these very worthy causes, please click on the relevant link/s below.
How does the Bike Run work? Teams of ten run and cycle in relay pairs from one destination to another, over a non-stop period of 48 hours, starting on a Friday afternoon and finishing on/about the same time on the Sunday afternoon. This is equivalent to each person running more than a marathon and cycling over 50 miles whilst living, eating and sleeping in a rather fragrant mini-bus for 48 hours! This year 30 participants and 24 support crew from Moorhouse Consulting (and friends) took part in the event which, stretched even the most athletic team members to their limits. How did the Bike Run go? Well, the bike run is over and all who participated are feeling the pain but, it was a fantastic event. All three teams successfully reached Queen's Square, London and a huge amount of money was raised for our chosen charities. A phenomenal effort all 'round saw the teams make it to the finish line safely and in good spirits. An incredible display of fitness, endurance and teamwork from participants and support crew alike, with an overal feeling of a real sense of achievement, from what was an extreme mental and physical challenge for all that took part. The weather was a challenge and although it should have been a huge obstacle in their success, the team battled through the rain, hailstones and winds ‘wet but in good spirits’. Fundraising success! Thank you to everyone who has supported us, your generosity is greatly appreciated by all at Sustainable Futures in Africa, Alzheimer's Society and GOSHCC. Over £21,000 has been raised collectively!!! Roll on 2009!!!!
