Delivering the benefits from business change
- The challengesRead more
Delivering transformational change effectively is a key differentiator that enables organisations to increase performance and gain competitive advantage. Whilst successful management of change is critical to deliver increased customer and shareholder value, the failure rate of change programmes remains high, with the majority of change initiatives failing to deliver anticipated benefits. Delivering sustainable change is difficult as it requires the alignment of a complex set of interactions and acceptance across all levels within an organisation. Our experience in delivering change is that the challenge is not the understanding of the problems but successfully defining 'how' and 'what' needs to be done.

We help clients design and deliver transformational change through our Shaping and Embedding Change framework which is structured around key principles that drive long term transformational change. This approach provides a pathway from ensuring there is total clarity on what the proposed change will deliver and alignment to strategic objectives, through to the long term embedding of new behaviour. Our approach brings together the disciplines of project management (making it happen) and behavioural change (making it stick), as represented below.
Our approach is designed to ensure that in supporting delivery of change we:
- Focus on delivering business benefits: we tie the value to the delivery approach and implement innovative solutions to ensure the value is secured
- Manage stakeholders and interfaces: programmes and projects will often have a complex mix of client and supplier stakeholders, who all have a role in shaping the environment that will support or destroy delivery. We recognise these differing perspectives, putting structures in place to create a successful environment and drive the delivery through empowered busines teams
- Assure programme delivery: guiding delivery of change programmes against time, quality and cost metrics is more than a process of audit and gateway management. It requires support and deployment of experienced project management specialists who are able to read and react early to warning signs
- Understand the nature of the unique challenges: we support clients in understanding the key risks and nature of the critical challenges, identifying the gap between the programme characteristics in terms of speed, scale, costs and proposing mitigating actions
- Focus on the actions that will make a difference: defining the right programme shape ensures leaders at all levels create delivery momentum and the environment to succeed
