The challenge to the client
A global pharmaceutical organisation announced a three-part asset swap that included the acquisition, divestment and creation of a joint venture with another global pharmaceutical firm. The scale of this asset swap was unprecedented in complexity and scope; it required robust planning and efficient delivery for the outlined benefits of the deal to be fully realised.
We were engaged to provide dedicated programme management support for the communications workstream of the programme. We were involved throughout all stages of the transaction, from detailed integration planning through to post-merger integration.
Our team were responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate governance structures, managing interdependencies appropriately and delivering the drumbeat for critical programme products to be approved and communicated. We also designed and implemented innovative management tools to control the flow of communication within this complex, fast-paced global deal.
Value to the client
The successful closure of the deal enabled both organisations to divest business units that weren’t essential to their future strategy, allowing them to focus on their key growth areas. Our work in the communications workstream was a key part of this success, supporting the large employee base through this transition. Embedding and deploying change management, for example to retain and motivate employees, was also essential throughout the deal.
By delivering to plan and ensuring a seamless and integrated communications workstream, we played a vital role in the deal's success.
