Getting The Most From Your Consultant 26 March 2008 Programme and project management specialists Moorhouse Consulting hosted a recent event for procurement professionals at the Institute of Business Consulting (IBC) titled “The Inside Track to Getting the Most from your Consultant”. Moorhouse Director Tim Phillips said that recent research by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) has proven that of the eight common reasons for consultancy project failure, three relate directly to the success of the procurement process, placing the procurement arena firmly under the spotlight. Tim said: “Enterprise organisations have realised that there is much to be gained from ensuring they have an effective procurement process that allows them to choose and deploy their management consultants efficiently, that gives them more value for money and greater benefits realisation across their major change programmes. “The seminar attracted a range of delegates from both the private and public sector and we had an excellent debate on the problems companies face with their current procurement processes and how to overcome them in different industries. This led to a real cross-fertilization of ideas on how to move forward.” Tim used a lively mix of examples of best practice procurement and real life case studies on how to deploy this in the workplace. Tim concluded: “The main learning points were that procurement success should be viewed as an ongoing journey, and a multi-level view that looks at the maturity of an organisation in several key dimensions such as people, process, performance and planning is crucial to improving capability.” Lynda Pursor, Director of the IBC said: “The Institute of Business Consulting was delighted with the outcome of it's partnership with Moorhouse Consulting in providing procurement professionals with a thorough insight into successfully engaging with consultants. Furthermore this partnership has helped the Institute continue to raise standards and competence in business consulting and enhance it's position as the authoritative voice of the profession.”
