Moorhouse dig deep to raise £8k for charity 29-06-09

Moorhouse recently swapped their suits for cycling shorts for a special charity event that spanned Wales and inner city London. 

The programme and project management advisory specialists raised almost £8K for Cancer Research UK and City Gateway with a two part event that comprised of a sponsored 'bike run' from Wales to London, and a renovation project for women and young people in Tower Hamlets.

Clients, friends and family sponsored the team of twenty Moorhouse staff charged with running and cycling 360 miles from Milford Haven, West Wales to London, in just under forty-eight hours.  

At the same time, a second team of Moorhouse colleagues began work renovating indoor and outdoor areas at City Gateway's Women's Centre and Youth Centre in Tower Hamlets.

Managing Director Dom Moorhouse, who took part in the Bike Run, said: “This weekend has been hard work, enormous fun and very rewarding. In the bike run, a bike was stolen shortly after starting and a support mini bus had to be towed from a ditch, but nothing would stop the 'bike runners' from achieving their goal. It was a nail-biting finish too, with only fifteen minutes separating the winning team from those in second place, but it made for a great finale when we met our colleagues at the finish line at City Gateway.”

The team arrived to find a crowd of 200 to greet them, including many of the Centre users, who had come to see the renovation work that had taken place and congratulate the people who had worked so hard to make it happen. 

Jerry Daykin, Marketing Manager, City Gateway said: “The Moorhouse team added a brand new music studio to the Youth Centre, and completely renovated the internal office; in addition, the garden and outdoor space at the Women's Centre has been totally transformed for children and parents to enjoy. “The young people particularly enjoyed the work that took place in the studio – especially the vibrant new colours! “It was a real success to have a mix of all ages, genders and groups who use the centre pop in to see what was happening. We can't thank the Moorhouse team enough for their efforts and look forward to working with them in the future.”
