Young project managers inspired by new event 19-05-08

Thirty of the UK's hottest up and coming project managers attended the Association of Project Management's (APM) recent 'Young Project Manager of the Year Roadshow' event.

Lead speaker David Epps of project management firm Moorhouse, and Runner Up for the award in 2007, told the story of the client project that so impressed last year's judging panel - implementing best practice programme and project management (PPM) within the NHS, to help deliver their flagship change programme NPfIT Local Ownership Programme.  David also talked about his experience of the APM's awards submission process and offered suggestions on how to do your submission justice by telling a compelling story, and some of the benefits his organisation has seen as a result, such as increased profile and credibility.

David said: “The attendees were also interested to hear about my wider career in project management – how it has developed, the different paths you can take and the variety of techniques you can learn to enhance your skills.”

Graham Woodward, the APM's Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the APM Awards Judges joined David as a speaker on the day.

Graham said: “This session was put together specifically for London Branch members of our 'Inspire' group - those new to Project Management and those people just entering the world of PPM.  It is very important that we encourage these people, give them a place and time to network with like-minded peers and the chance to hear lessons learnt from people like David, a finalist from last year who is working deep within the public sector.  The quality of David's presentation clearly demonstrated what an exceedingly high standard the three finalists' achieve. I am delighted that the APM Awards provides the vehicle to present such talent to the community at large.”
