Learning and development
- Your anxietyRead more
Your organisation is historically over-reliant on consulting or long-term temporary resources to deliver programmes and fill specialist programme and project management (PPM) roles. The internal knowledge base is stagnant. You realise that this approach is neither sustainable nor affordable and is now constrained by a need to reduce costs. More importantly, while programme management capability is now viewed as a strategically core competence, your organisation is not harnessing the opportunities of its own complex programmes and projects to develop the capability of its internal PPM staff.
- How we can help youRead more
Our approach revolves around a rapid assessment of an organisation's current levels of PPM capability, and the development of a targeted programme of capability improvement measures.
If a comprehensive capability audit is required, we can work with you to develop a consistent diagnostic, assessment and development framework for your PPM staff. This may either be aligned to recognised professional bodies of knowledge (e.g. APM Book of Knowledge, PM Book of Knowledge) and/or adapted to your internal PPM methodology.
The framework can also be embedded into specialist software tools to direct users to targeted development based on their individual needs and career aspirations. Meanwhile, the management information derived from such tools can provide a clear view of prioritised capability needs across the organisation – whether by specific competence, or localised within certain departments or programmes.
Recognising that tools are just a means to an end, we also work with our clients to build the right programme of training and development opportunities for staff involved in delivering programmes at all levels.
If a longer term personalised development for key individuals is required, our unique PPM mentoring scheme [ed note: link to PPM Mentoring scheme page] matches Moorhouse's award-winning PPM practitioners with individuals in our client organisations who are looking to improve their PPM capability in specific areas.
The Moorhouse mentor and client 'mentee' embark on a structured programme of one-to-one learning and development, usually over a six or twelve month period, that takes in core PPM and related management and leadership skills, and is tailored to the mentee's personal and professional objectives.
- How we would work with youRead more
Our work focuses on equipping your PPM staff to deliver programmes and projects more confidently and more effectively. We achieve this by delivering credible and relevant support, in which the right individuals are offered the right opportunities to address their personal PPM development needs. While this can be facilitated to a certain extent by the use of assessment frameworks and tools, an understanding of organisational and individual priorities is also gauged by means of leadership workshops and tailored staff assessment.
Many advisors will take an independent look at your ways of working, provide you with a briefing or report at the end of their work, and leave you wondering how to take things forward. We typically work with you throughout our diagnoses so that your own people really understand the issues at stake and are already well placed to introduce improvements.
We also work hard to ensure that any frameworks or tools we provide will integrate with your organisation's existing programme structures and methodologies, rather than working in isolation or in conflict with them.
- Tools and training we can provideRead more
Capability or skills management software can be used to bring a PPM framework to life in an online assessment and development tool, with real-time feedback provided to users on skills gaps and targeted development.
Moorhouse can also support training delivery where appropriate, for example focused coaching support for senior programme leaders.
Our framework, combining our own experience of what works best with industry-standard PPM best practice, provides the basis for identifying the potential delivery issues in your organisation. In addition we have an up to date library of tools and techniques, which we can use to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your PPM approach.
