Enhancing global programme and project management capability at EMI

    EMI embarked on a significant business transformation and Moorhouse were engaged to enhance in-house project management and improve capability across Global Technology's c.£12m project portfolio. We created a bespoke project management methodology, named PRIME, which was cemented with bespoke training in London, New York and Los Angeles. Our training was rated 'excellent' and our PRIME methodology improved 'on time' delivery by 300% within six months. We left EMI with a high quality Project Management Office and a highly flexible, bespoke, training library.

    'Change or Die' in business may sound like an exaggeration, but for the music industry this extreme choice has never been more real as technology reshapes consumer behaviours. During 2010 EMI embarked on a critical business transformation programme to support the change in strategy to become a 'comprehensive rights management company'.

    The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) recognised both the scale and complexity of this ambition and the need to enhance project delivery capability. Moorhouse was engaged to establish a culture of effective internal project and programme management capability to improve benefits delivery across its £12m change portfolio.

    Moorhouse identified the requirement for a benefit led project management methodology with user friendly templates, consistent use of language and compliance within a 'challenge and support' governance structure.

    The embedding of a transformed culture of programme and project management was led through the delivery of PRIME. PRIME provided: 

    • The operating framework for the strategic Programme Management Office (PMO)
    • A practical governance structure to sustain the methodology 
    • A project management toolkit – complete with templates, handbooks, guidance notes and FAQs for all stages of the methodology

    Moorhouse embedded this capability enhancement via bespoke training and hands on coaching. The training curriculum was innovative and delivered face-to-face to fully optimise the capability uplift.

    Training was rolled-out to the global project management community from London via European hubs to New York and Los Angeles. Moorhouse optimised the training with interactive sessions to embed the updated operating framework, communicate the project delivery model and demonstrate the benefits for both the project management community and business.

    The training courses received an average rating of 'excellent' and created a critical mass of talent, with a consistent standard for project management.

    PRIME had an immediate impact on the business, dramatically improving 'on time' delivery across the portfolio by 300% over a six month period. In addition, Moorhouse embedded improved management information in the PMO which provided both real time and accurate information on the delivery status of projects including strategic risks for the executive team.

    The outcome of our support was an enhanced project and programme management culture within EMI, able to support the ambitious strategic change.
