What was the challenge?
The publication of ‘Next Steps on the NHS Five Year Forward View’ in March 2017 set an ambitious strategy for national service improvement. A unique opportunity was identified to transform Urgent & Emergency Care services across the country, harnessing innovative technologies to simplify patient access and give patients the tools to manage their own health. This in turn hoped to reduce inappropriate demand on ambulance trusts and challenged A&E departments.
Moorhouse were engaged by the Urgent & Emergency Care (U&EC) programme within Healthy London Partnership* to manage and drive the delivery of NHS Urgent & Emergency Care digital priorities across London, using agile programme management techniques.
How did we help?
Specialist Moorhouse consultants were embedded in a blended programme team to harness the value of agile scrum techniques to improve the delivery of IT solutions which reflected strategic, operational and clinical requirements.
We managed the mobilisation process and launch of digital solutions across the London health and social care commissioning and provider ecosystem. Thorough stakeholder engagement and the development of a tailored change management process were required during the mobilisation phase to support increased uptake by patients and frontline clinicians.
What was the impact?
Deploying and connecting new digital solutions across London has created new and more streamlined patient flows across the system. This includes the pilot launch of two patient-facing online services which have seen over 30,000 downloads since Autumn 2017 and the rollout of the national NHS 111 Online service to over half of London’s population. In addition, the Moorhouse team have supported the ability of NHS 111 services to book electronic appointments in 90% of GP Extended Access centres across London.
These solutions all enable the continued digital transformation of NHS services for urgent health concerns, support the health sector to reduce pressure across the acute system and support delivery of an improved patient experience.
