What was the challenge?
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) protects the security, independence and interests of the UK at home and abroad. The MOD’s aim is to ensure that the armed forces have the training, equipment and support necessary for their work. A key element of how the MOD planned to deliver their aim was to have enabling information and technology capabilities that acted as a ‘force multiplier’.
The MOD planned to undertake a big IT transformation, that impacted over 200,000 people across their front-line commands (Air, Army, Navy) and the business units. Business change effort was required to support successful delivery of the desired outcomes and benefits so that IT became a ‘force multiplier’.
How did we help?
We assessed the change function’s existing capability and engaged senior stakeholders to review the business change of two of their major IT programmes. We reviewed the vision, benefits, stakeholder engagement, impact, readiness assessment and change structures.
We also reviewed the operating model, approach and supporting tools of the business change function.
We then went on to support the MOD to define the future business change function, develop an approach and tools to support business change and to accelerate aspects of their existing change programmes.
What was the impact?
We supported stakeholder buy-in to the new business change function and led activities that built new capability, approaches and tools. We also gained buy-in for a plan to accelerate the business change of two of their major IT programmes.
