What was the challenge?
For major change projects, the Open University (OU) wanted to establish a strategic portfolio management capability to ensure that the OU's investment in change continues to be optimised. The Major Change Board (MCB), comprising a cross-functional team of Executive and Senior Management has overall responsibility for delivery oversight, but recognised a need to make better use of portfolio management processes and insights delivered by the Portfolio Office. The main areas they wanted to focus on were their new business strategy and maximising their overall return on investment.
How did we help?
Moorhouse provided strategic portfolio management coaching and advice to the MCB, with a particular focus on their role in portfolio oversight and assurance. This included a review of portfolio management information reports, meeting observation to assess behaviours and decision-making processes, group coaching and working with the MCB and Portfolio Office to identify opportunities for improvement.
What was the impact?
The support was designed to maximise the value of OU's portfolio management processes and management information. By empowering the MCB through our coaching sessions, we helped them effectively use data to drive decisions and this has optimised the portfolio in line with strategy, therefore maximising benefit realisation.
