After a topsy-turvy 20 months, Moorhouse returns to face-to-face inductions! Here's how I found my first day.
First days are always daunting but sharing the lift with a fellow Moorhouse colleague who asked about my weekend instantly put me at ease before my first step into the office. I later realised this was a member of our Partner team who already knew I was a new joiner from the weekly bulletin. This theme of welcoming transcended throughout the day with colleagues across all grades making a concerted effort to introduce themselves and ask how I was getting on.
The day kicked off with an introduction to the firm from none other than my lift buddy, followed by a run through of the different teams and processes. Whilst there was lots of useful information to take in, it was so refreshing to be back in the office and meet lots of new colleagues which made the day fly by. Although virtual inductions have their functional merits, being face-to-face again gave us a chance to really get to know our colleagues and for them to get to know us.
My induction was shared with three other new joiners, a Junior Consultant, a Manager and even a new Partner; reiterating that at Moorhouse everyone is treated the same, regardless of seniority or grade, and all are equally approachable and friendly. This intimate and collaborative approach to our induction really helped with getting to know other new colleagues on a personal level, rather than becoming lost in a large new joiner cohort.
Lunch offered another chance to meet colleagues more informally outside of our induction setting, and over a great spread of sandwiches and snacks – an unexpected bonus to an already exceptional day!
For the rest of the afternoon, we continued to learn the how-to’s and met each team who ran through their area of expertise, with ample opportunity to ask any questions.
Overall, the experience was an encouraging one, any apprehension from the morning had long since dissipated and I was sure I had made the right decision to join a brilliant, warm, and welcoming company.
